Mark Flaherty teaches applied trumpet and horn to majors and non-majors and directs the Northern Michigan University Jazz Band and Jazz Combos. He also teaches courses in jazz improvisation, survey of jazz, upper brass methods, music theory, and Music in Society, a service course for liberal studies credit. In addition to these duties, he coordinates the technology needs of the Music Department. This includes providing support for the use of music software, and maintaining the Music Technology Lab and the electronic practice suites that assist students in learning jazz and commercial styles, as well as traditional solo literature.
