Z. Z. Lehmberg is a native of Guangzhou, China, where she began her teaching career as an English teacher at Peizheng Middle School at the age of 17, before she came to the U.S. to pursue her higher education. After a brief stint in the business world, Z. Z. realized that she was better suited for teaching and education.
In addition to teaching a variety of courses in composition, pedagogy, literature, and language, Z. Z. is also actively involved in Northern’s internationalization efforts, helping connecting the university and Chinese educational institutions. In 2008 she was instrumental in securing a Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence grant for Northern to bring a traditional Chinese medicine doctor and kongfu master to campus. Her teaching and service to the university are complemented by her scholarly interests and accomplishments. She has published autobiographical essays, English translation of classical Chinese poetry, and articles on composition research and pedagogy. She is also a frequent presenter at regional and international conferences sponsored by professional organizations, such as College Composition and Communication, the International Writing Centers Association, and the Midwest Writing Centers Association. Z. Z. often brings students to conferences to introduce them to the professional world beyond Northern.
