Abstract

The purpose of this study was to test the function of two diabetic foot shoes - BMWALKER and DARCO. Plantar pressure distribution of 12 healthy people and 10 diabetic patients in daily activities were analyzed. Both shoes could alleviate the pressure on the metatarsal bone area and big toe of diabetic patients. The DARCO shoes could improve arch support. Both shoes could reduce the maximum pressure and impulse on 2-3 and 4-5 metatarsus, thus balancing the pressure in the foot sole and abating the risk of damage due to high pressure and long time impact. The DARCO shoes dispersed the pressure of metatarsal bone and heel by better arch support. The BMWALKER shoes reduced the maximum pressure and impulse by increasing the effective load area at the 2-5 toes as well as the maximum pressure in the big toe.
